Bull Products protects iconic Manchester Town Hall during extensive refurbishment project

Bull Products has supplied the SiteProtect Wireless Alarm System to protect the scaffolding and renovations at Manchester Town Hall from intruders, during the four year refurbishment project of the Grade 1 listed, heritage building.

Built in 1877, the neo gothic town hall sits in the heart of Manchester city centre and is a much loved and significant landmark. The town hall has been used for many purposes over the years, including council business, weddings, and events. Following a series of surveys and inspections, a refurbishment began to ensure this heritage building was fit for purpose in the 21st century.

Current work to the extensive building includes replacing the heating, electrics, plumbing and ventilation access and, to carry this out, a huge amount of scaffolding was constructed around its large surface area.

Due to its city centre location, scaffolding made the town hall an easy target for intruders, and contractor WysePower needed an alarm system that would provide peace of mind and protection during the works and out of hours. The SiteProtect Wireless Alarm System incorporates Scaff Alarm – a unique intruder detection system designed to deter attempted break-ins or access to higher levels of scaffolding.

The system connects up to 31 PIR detection devices each with a 110-decibel sounder, beacon alarm, and are linked on a fully wireless mesh that communicates back to a control panel. The system is fitted with an auto dialler which then alerts the site’s security guard to any intruders. During the day, the system also provides protection, raising the alarm and alerting site workers to any fires inside the building.

131 SiteProtect Wireless Alarm Systems have so far been installed across the site. An additional 76 are due to be installed in the Town Hall’s temporary roof covering whilst repair works are carried out on the original roof, providing a complete external fire and intruder alarm system on site.

“We have worked with Bull across a number of significant projects and we were confident that they were the perfect partner to supply the SiteProtect Wireless Alarm System. The clever wireless technology means that the alarm can travel easily across the building’s scaffolding, whilst any fire alarms can also be raised internally. Installation has been quick and easy, providing us with peace of mind that we have a truly reliable solution protecting this heritage site.”
