Bull Products has supplied its prestigious Cygnus wireless alarm systems to St Stephens Towers – a £45m revamp to provide multi-storey accommodation for more than 700 students.

Bull was contracted to supply its Cygnus alarm devices during work on the site, which will provide purpose-built apartments with social spaces featuring a cinema, gymnasium, study rooms, and a series of lounge spaces for the students at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and the Norwich University of Arts.

The Cygnus System on site includes the Control Panel, Fire Call Point Alarm, Fire Call Point and First Aid Alarm.

A major innovation in wireless emergency fire, first aid, and intruder alarms for construction sites, the Cygnus radio fire alarm system manufactured by Bull Products, has been designed for specific use on construction sites where changing site conditions and environments demand a far higher performance from the radio than those found in standard wireless fire alarm systems. It is ideal for complex projects that require long distance connections and in areas of dense concrete or steel frames.

Five bespoke first aid safety stations with first aid equipment were also installed. The Life Point Pro Defibrillator is designed to keep sudden cardiac arrest victims alive (until emergency responder services are present) by directing the user with voice commands. The unit automatically analyses the ECG signal of the patient and decides whether defibrillation is required.

Matthew Trigwell, Sales Director at Bull Products, says: “We’re pleased to have worked on this project, having supplied a range of products to ensure maximum site safety. The Cygnus system was ideal for this project as it can be moved around to the different storeys, thus providing a flexible, cost-effective, and reliable solution, while an AED ensured workers were protected if emergency responders were unable to get to the site in time.”
