Servicing

Fire extinguishers must be serviced annually, in accordance with BS5306. Our certified engineers work to an automatic servicing schedule and follow the below procedures when carrying out a basic service on a fire extinguisher.

  • Safety pin present and securely fitted.
  • Examination of base for damage or corrosion.
  • On powder extinguishers listen to movement of powder by inverting.
  • Examination of operating instructions for legibility.
  • Weigh extinguisher and compare from last service.
  • External examination of head cap.
  • Pump gauge pressure test and calibration, affix year gauge dot.
  • Remove safety pin and check under the operating lever for damage.
  • Replace safety pin and affix anti tamper seal.
  • Remove the discharge hose/ horn or nozzle and check the ferrules/ nozzle/ connector and external condition, replace discharge pressure seal and check threads and bore of valve.
  • Check the discharge path is clear through the hose and wind back onto extinguisher head.
  • Wipe down extinguisher with cloth.
  • Record details on the service label, date, weight, condition and engineers identification.
  • Check condition of mounting bracket/ stand at the fire point.
  • Return the extinguisher to fire point.
  • All fire extinguishers are adequately identified with signage.
