SEMINAR EXPLAINS CE MARKING & CPR FOR CONSTRUCTION SITE TEMPORARY FIRE ALARMS
Leading figures from the construction industry’s health & safety sector gathered together at the CE Marking Association for a seminar to give clarity on the Construction Products Regulations (CPR) and CE marking.
Hosted by the CE Marking Association at its head office in Warwickshire and sponsored by Bull Products, presentations were made by Mike Foster and Peter Evans of CE Marking Association and Duncan King of Construction Products Association. There was also a keynote speech by Guy Bampton, team leader of construction products and building regulations in the Department of Community and Local Government. The speakers gave the delegates an overview of the CE marking process covering the directives, standards, documentation and declarations; an overview of the CPR together with help in interpreting these; and a look at the harmonised standards under the CPR. The seminar, which ran into the afternoon, allowed for questions and answers from the audience in every part of the presentation.
Sponsors Bull Products were keen in particular to clarify how the marking and regulations affected temporary products such as its wireless fire alarm systems used during the construction phase of building projects. This issue received full clarification with all parties agreeing that such products were not required to be CE marked under the Construction Products regulations 305/2011 which applied to construction products which are produced and placed on the market for incorporation in a permanent manner in construction works.
Clarifying the distinction further, Mike Foster, of the CE Marking Association said, “During the construction of ‘construction works,’ items such as false works, scaffolding, site security and safety systems are temporary, these items are not ‘construction products’ as defined under the Construction Products Regulations 305/2011.”
Rounding up the day, Ross Markham, a director of Bull Products, thanked the speakers and delegates for a very successful event. He commented, “We are delighted to have given a useful insight into CE marking and CPR to all who attended, and to have gained clarity on temporary products used on construction sites”. He amplified his company’s dedication to health and safety standards and said, “We are an innovator and manufacturer of the highest quality products to ensure the safety and security of industrial and commercial premises. We are finding that more and more customers are looking for bespoke products and Bull Products now has its own R&D facility at Reading and a development plan is in place to bring many new products to market over the next two years.”
