CYGNUS PROTECTS 250 WORKERS DURING BOND STREET STATION UPGRADE

Bull Products installed its prestigious alarm system during work on Bond Street tube station in London.

The Cygnus Wireless Alarm System replaced a previously installed system that couldn’t deliver what the contractors required for the project – a high-connectivity alarm system with a powerful radio frequency which was strong enough to work underground. The previous system took two minutes to send an alert to the panel from alarms situated underground at platform level. Once installed in place of the old system, the Cygnus System received an alert instantaneously when an alarm was raised.

Working alongside world-leading project development and construction group, Skanska, and technology-based engineering solutions company, Costain, we have supplied 39 Fire Call Point Alarms, 12 Heat Detectors and a Control Panel. The units have been installed across five underground floors and the platform, thus providing the ultimate protection for more than 250 workers.

Simon Formby, Electrical Supervisor for Bond Street Station project, added: “We’re really pleased with the Cygnus alarm system which has addressed the issues that we faced the first time around. For such a complex project, we required a system that had a long-range connection and one that would work effectively underground without any cables. The system is very compatible and efficient – now our workers can be alerted in an emergency in a matter of seconds.”

The redevelopment of Bond Street station, worth £300million, will make journeys quicker and easier for the hundreds of thousands of people who travel through one of the busiest stations every day.

The Elizabeth Line Bond Street station will help improve accessibility and increase capacity at one of the busiest shopping districts in the UK to accommodate over 225,000 people using the Jubilee, Central and Elizabeth lines daily.

Matthew Trigwell, one of our directors explains: “Our Cygnus wireless alarm system works effectively underground and in areas of dense concrete therefore it’s an ideal solution for the project. This is another major project win in London and we’re thrilled that our alarm system is protecting so many construction workers’ lives when it matters the most.”
